PICTURE FRAMING
by Ann Pigott, Past President

IN GENERAL:
Do Not use small metal toothed hang-ups. Get mat cut professionally and add cost to sale price. Otherwise, proceed as below.

MATTING:
Use 1 strip of linen tape to hinge the mat along the top of the backing board. Place the painting inside. Then use 2" strips of P90 tape - as 2 or3 hinges, to stick painting to the top of the backing board (for less movement ).

With painting and mat now in place, 'Score' the mat for sizing, and cut for proper fit. Alternatively, fitting the mat can be done before the painting is put in place. Be sure the mat is slightly shorter on all sides to ensure clearance. (Note: clean glass, frame, everything twice - brush frame lightly.)

Best buy for acid free board: "Chops" or a picture framer.

(Bottom of mat flips up). Cut just slightly inside to allow its free movement.

Place title card on back - glue gun may be used.

Add "sticky" price tag that can be removed.

METAL FRAMES:
To assemble metal frames, square corners, should be company name facing up, for better fit (2 each corner). Put 3 sides together with screwdriver. Slide painting with mat and board into three sided frame. Add 4th side of metal frame. Screw together. Feel corners for tight fit. Strips of mat board may be filled in inside area of frame, or metal pressure bars (small) may be inserted under back side of frame. Re-tighten screws. Check all, visually.

WIRING:
Allow enough wiring for 2 hooks, for better stability of frame and picture to wall. Frame hooks for wiring should be 1/3 way down on frame. Wiring about 2" past frame hook and wrapped tightly around wiring (including ends).
